Making Waves with the Aquatennial Ambassadors

We're starting a new series, Making Waves, which will allow you to get to know our Ambassador Team better. We'll start with Queen of the Lakes, Haley Rogers.

Background

School: St. Olaf College

Major: Mathematics (concentrations in Educational Studies and Mathematical Biology)

Favorite Food: Chinese takeout

Hobbies/Passions: I love to sing - I sing in a choir at St. Olaf and absolutely love it! You can also find me humming a tune I made up 95% of the time. I like to play basketball with my friends, and I'm very passionate about serving. I love to volunteer at my church.

Career Ambitions: to teach math at the high school level. I eventually want to go back to school to get my administrative license to be a high school principal.

As an Ambassador...

What went through your mind when your name was called as an Aquatennial Ambassador?

Thinking about this moment is still absolutely unreal to me...my mind went blank because I was so entirely in shock and overjoyed.

What has been most memorable so far in your year?

I've loved being able to create relationships with Courtney, Mandy, Ann, Marjorie, and Jackie. They have become some of my best friends.

What are you excited about?

I'm excited for our Winnipeg trip with the entire group. It will be a blast.

Word Association

What comes to mind when you hear...community?

I think of a group of people that all love something about the same place and care deeply about continuing to make that place amazing. I also think of a simple word: home! My community [Albertville] will forever be my home, and I'm so thankful for all of the support I've received from them.

What comes to mind when you hear...leadership?

When I think of a leader, I think of someone who shows other people how to be the best versions of themselves. A good leader doesn't work towards his or her own success, but strives to see success from the people surrounding them.

What comes to mind when you hear...volunteer?

I think of the sacrifice of time, talents, and treasures, for the sole purpose of assisting other people. Volunteerism is done out of a loving and generous heart that simply wants to see our environment (whether that be community, country, or world) a better place.

Next month, we'll get to know Aquatennial Commodore Ann Bailey! Stay tuned...
